Position: Higher Scientific Officer (SO)
Pay Rate: £19.59 per hour
Hours: Full time, 37 hours
Flexible working hours 37hr week from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am and 6pm
Duration: Until 31/12/2025, with possibility of extension
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Hybrid working – 1-2 days Clare House 303 Airport Road West, Belfast, BT3 9ED and working from home
Job Duties:
Policy Development
– Monitor progress of wider developments in chemicals and industrial pollution regulation and contribute to policy development in NI and on a UK-wide basis.
– Attend NI and UK wide meetings and discussion fora.
– Assist in the implementation of UK Common Policy Frameworks between Defra and the Devolved Governments to ensure post EU Exit continued compliance with international obligationsand trade both within the UK and internationally.
– Assist line management with completion of the Chemical and Industrial Pollution Policy(CIPP) team’s corporate / legislative / business /Windsor Framework returns.
– Assist in the drafting of responses to communications including Assembly Questions (AQs), Treat Official Cases (TOFs), Freedom of Information (FoI) requests, correspondence and Invitation Cases.
– Ad-hoc duties relating to the overall remit of the team as the need arises such as providing oral and written briefings to staff and line management, ensuring relevant information is saved to the Departments information management systems etc.
Essential Criteria:
- 5 GCSE’s A*-C including Maths and English and one science subject (must be able to show evidence)
- Educated to a degree level
- HNC/HND in a scientific subject,
AND
- 2 years post qualification experience working in Chemical related field.
Desired Experience:
- A scientific degree AND 3 years’ post qualification experience working in Chemical related field.
*The successful applicant will be required to complete an Access NI during registration*
