Our client, A Large public sector organisation, based in the Newcastle area is looking for Kitchen assistants to join their team.
Duration: Temporary
Rate of pay: £11.70 per hour
Location: Newcastle Area
Hours: Minimum 20 hours per week. Additional hours will be required, generally to a maximum of 37 hours per week. The available roles will involve a degree of weekend working.
Start Date: ASAP
Main Duties & Responsibilities Include:
The main function of this post is to assist the Head Cook and other staff in preparing, cooking and serving meals, cleaning and maintaining all areas of the kitchen, kitchenette and other relevant areas in a clean, tidy and hygienic condition, meeting the required standards. Flexibility is required as successful candidates may undertake other duties in order to meet the changing
needs of the organisation.
Cooking
To assist the cooking staff prepare, cook and serve meals, including:
Washing, chopping and mixing food products as required
Using a range of techniques to cook food
Preparing tea, coffee and traybakes as required
Ensuring that all food is stored appropriately
Serving
To serve food to customers, staff and guests as required, including:
Serving food at meal times at the server
Table service, as required
Serving Centre visitors with tea, coffee and food as required
Cleaning
To thoroughly clean, as required and directed:
Pots, pans and other kitchen utensils
Kitchen, including floors, sinks, tables, surfaces, etc
Dining area
Kitchenette
Coffee area
Other areas as required
General
Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner
Report all defects to the Head Cook
Assist other staff with preparing orders from suppliers, in line with procurement policy
Administer all paperwork and delivery notes as per defined procedures
Maintain effective stock control at all times through rotation and date checks
Other general duties to support the operation and general maintenance of the catering function
as directed by line manager.
Essential Criteria
Knowledge & Experience:
Experience of working in a restaurant, school, hotel (or similar) kitchen
Experience of working in a public facing environment
Experience of working as part of a team
Knowledge of good hygiene practices
Desirable Criteria
Food Safety Hygiene Certificate
