Job Title: Mobile plant operator
Location: Southampton
Hours: 07:45 – 17:00 Monday – Friday
Salary: £13.77

Are you an experienced Heavy Plant Operator looking for a challenging role in the metal recycling industry? We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team in Southampton. As a Heavy Plant Operator, you will play a vital role in the loading and unloading of HGV vehicles, feeding shredders, shears, and balers, and ensuring the safe and efficient loading of ships. If you have the necessary skills and experience, we want to hear from you!

Main Duties:

Picking up and moving a variety of materials, sometimes in confined spaces.
Feeding the shredder, shears, and balers as directed and in line with business requirements.
Loading and unloading materials from heavy goods vehicles.
Loading ships in a safe and orderly manner.
Working as an exemplar in guiding others through the protocols of ship loading.
Carrying out daily machine start-up and shut-down procedures.
Carrying out daily machine checks.
Completing machine checklists on a daily basis.
Ensuring work is of a high standard.
Complying with all equipment operating systems.
Making written and/or verbal reports to line managers as required.
Carrying out any additional duties that may be reasonably requested from time to time.
Complying with Company policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Manual and your contract of employment.
A flexible approach, including the willingness to work outside normal hours as and when required.

Essential Skills:

Proven track record of working in a comparable role.
Proven ability to drive heavy mobile plant.
Proven ability to load ships and other vessels from the dockside (training can be given if already experienced in a mobile plant).
Capable of conducting basic maintenance, including but not exclusive to greasing, oiling, and fuelling.
A full clean driving licence.
Good literacy and numeracy skills.
NVQ Level 3 or above in a relevant subject or comparable work experience.

Ability to interpret seagoing vessels’ markings and therefore estimate amounts loaded during ship loading.
