The Recruitment Co are currently working with the Belfast Trust in recruiting for a Band 5 Research officer.

JOB PURPOSE

The Research Officer will assist with delivering the Patient and Client Council’s statutory function to undertake research and conduct investigations into the best methods and practices for consulting the public about and involving them in matters
relating to Health and Social Care. The post holder will work on a wide range of research projects, employing a range of different research methodologies. They will be supported in this by the Research Manager. Their role will primarily involve:
Assisting research design, data analysis and report writing;

  • Conducting in-house research projects;
  • Assisting in the management of external or commissioned research; and
  • Providing professional advice and support to the Patient and Client Council (PCC).
  • PRINCIPAL DUTIES OF THE POST:

Service Delivery

  • To assist in in-house research and the contracting and managing of external research and evaluation.
  • Conducting literature searches and reviews.
  • Writing research specifications and briefs.
  • To contribute to and on occasions, lead in the design and implementation of quantitative and qualitative research projects.
  • To produce reports and papers for both presentation and publication, in compliance with PCC standards for report writing.
  • To ensure that research is planned and delivered by the PCC in compliance with relevant research governance requirements.
  • To assist in all aspects of delivery of research projects to ensure accurate, timely and cost effective execution of the research.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Possess a university degree (social science or related) with a significant research component, or an equivalent research related qualification

AND
Have at least one years experience of working as a research assistant/officer in a health and/or social research environment whether in the voluntary, statutory, academic or private sectors.

OR
Have at least four years experience of working as a research assistant/officer in a health and/or social research environment whether in the voluntary, statutory, academic or private sectors.

  • Have experience of literature searching including the use of electronic bibliographic databases and literature reviewing.
  • Have the ability to critically appraise relevant research.
  • Have knowledge of and able to demonstrate practical experience of undertaking qualitative research.
  • Have knowledge of and able to demonstrate practical experience of statistical analysis and/or data management.
  • Have good organisational and communication skills including the ability to produce and present high quality papers.
  • Able to demonstrate experience of contributing to high quality research reports for a variety of target audiences.
  • Have the ability to work on their own initiative and also as part of a team, and to perform to a high standard with the minimum of supervision even under occasional pressure.
