Senior Electrical Engineer – Job Description

The Recruitment Co is on the search for an established Senior Electrical Engineer for our Illustrious client based in Manchester City Centre.
The role would include a mixture of client facing, leading projects/ project managing, developing junior staff but also still focused on design delivery. Opportunities to support business development and develop client relationships

Responsibilities:

  • Project Design and Calculation Development:
    • Develop and approve outline and developing electrical systems philosophies.
    • Produce and/or approve final electrical systems philosophy for projects.
    • Participate in inspections and monitoring of installations during construction and handover phases.
    • Prepare initial system load calculations for central and secondary plant sizing.
    • Refine developing system load calculations for precise plant sizing.
    • Produce and/or approve detailed system load calculations.
    • Contribute to concept areas/zones for main electrical plant and risers according to design philosophy.
  • Design Documentation and Communication:
    • Translate engineering concepts into presentations, reports, sketches, and infographics.
    • Approve lighting strategy and parameters, ensuring alignment with CIBSE Guides.
    • Confirm arrangements for special investigations or tests and define their extent.
    • Review and approve developed digital tools, approaches, and IT strategies.
    • Identify potential risks in health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial aspects and contribute to mitigation.
    • Research and contribute innovative solutions and strategies.
  • Equipment Selection and Approval:
    • Evaluate manufacturers’ data and advise on system implications.
    • Approve equipment schedules and review contractor tech submissions.
    • Review and comment on contractor working drawings and specialist CDP drawings.
  • Report and Schedule Contribution:
    • Contribute to and check Stage 2 and Stage 3 reports.
    • Assist in preparing Stage 4 technical specifications and handover documentation.
    • Review and integrate BREEAM requirements into design.
    • Respond to technical queries and contribute to design notes and RIBA Stage 2 & 3 Reports.
    • Approve Stage 4 technical schedules, room data sheets, environmental matrix schedules, and more.
    • Write Electrical Performance Specification and Detailed Electrical Specification as needed.
  • Drawing Development and Review:
    • Prepare Bluebeam drawing mark-ups for different RIBA stages.
    • Assist with concept schematics, zoning, and sketch drawings for preliminary designs.
    • Liaise with the BIM team on BIP and review manufacturer’s and specialist CDP drawings.
  • Meeting Participation:
    • Attend meetings and workshops directed by the Project Manager, contributing to project progress.
    • Attend site meetings and collaborate on the handover process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Electrical Engineer or equivalent role.
  • Proficient in electrical systems calculations and design tools.
  • Strong understanding of RIBA stages and project design process.
  • Exceptional communication skills for collaboration and client interaction.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for electrical engineering and design.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial considerations.

Benefits

  • Salary – based on candidate experience and suitability. generally range from £50-65k/annum
  • 4% pension.
  • Private health care.
  • Hours – 9-5.30pm (1hr for lunch).
  • We currently work in the office Tue-Thurs with Mon and Fri flexible wfh days.
