Trainee Quality Technician

£21,000 DOE


Daventry, Northants

Monday to Friday – Days – 37.5 hours

Our Daventry client is one of the UK’s leading Automotive OE small/medium volume component and accessory parts specialists. They deliver a wide range of services and innovative products, designed to exceed the exacting specifications and quality requirements of its customers.

The role:

  • The purpose of the role will be to to learn the skills and knowledge necessary to inspect internal and external parts ensuring they meet the desired specification whilst ensuring processes and procedures are adhered to
  • You will identify and raise quality concerns for speedy resolution, reducing the cost of quality and ensuring zero impact to the customer
  • Work in a team environment to install best practices with an emphasis on defect prevention and a reduction in variation and waste, as well as supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), Engineering Change Request (ECR) and Continuous Improvement (CI) activities
  • Plan within the immediate tasks assigned, contributing to project milestones
  • Demonstrate initiative and moderate problem solving within assigned tasks
  • Quality Technician pathway lasts between 12 – 24 months supported by a development plan with 3 monthly reviews to assess progress and developmental requirements, during this time the individual will deliver a project or implement a process whilst developing knowledge and competence of the role they are undertaking.


  • Undertake quality control activities such as part inspection, fault identification and stock sorting
  • Become competent in the use of coordinate measuring machines and X-ray equipment
  • Learn to manage and maintain inspection records
  • Identify and raise issues that could lead to the manufacture of unacceptable product, stop production where necessary
  • Support and learn to manage all quality concerns within the business (inc, Customer, Supplier, and internal concerns)
  • Support in delivering, and learn to lead regular inspection meetings, highlighting key quality concerns, identify quality “Hero” and establish actions to improve product quality
  • Support in ensuring documentation such as control plans, Standard operating procedures (SOPs) and route cards are implemented and maintained effectively
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) inc, Scrap, Rework, Parts per million (PPM) as well as Quarantine and inspection turnover
  • Support and participate in Continuous improvement (CI), New product introduction (NPI) and Engineering
  • Change Request (ECR) Activities
  • Be actively involved in product development and component testing
  • Learn to manage calibration processes and records and undertake routine maintenance for measurement equipment
  • Actively works toward achieving six sigma green belt qualification


  • HNC/ A-level qualified or equivalent in a relevant engineering or technical discipline
  • Computer literate especially, Excel, Word and preferably PowerPoint
  • Experience and competence in a CAD package i.e. (Solidworks, AutoCAD, Catia or other)
  • Awareness of automotive processes and practices desirable
  • Awareness of management systems desirable (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
