The Recruitment co are currently recruiting for a Transport manager on behalf of our client based at their Haydock Depot to oversee the management and operation of their commercial vehicle and company car fleet consisting of approximately 150 x 3.5t vans, 5 x HGV trucks and 15x company cars.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for the effective management of drivers’ working hours and absences, fleet availability, and cost control while ensuring that the company’s transport operations are run smoothly and efficiently.

The role is well suited for a management style with an eye for detail who thrives in a fast paced environment and takes satisfaction from maintaining high standards.

Slary – 45,000
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Managing the company’s transport operation – ensuring that the fleet runs efficiently and with minimal downtime
• Overseeing the management of HGV drivers’ holiday hours and absences to ensure adequate coverage at all times
• Ensuring that all vehicles are maintained in good working condition and that any repairs or maintenance work is carried out in a timely and cost-effective manner
• Monitoring fuel consumption, vehicle utilisation, and driver performance to identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate corrective actions
• Working with depot management to facilitate the competency, and compliance with all relevant regulations of the driving team
• Developing and implementing policies and procedures for the safe and efficient operation of the company’s transport operations
• Liaising with key stakeholders to ensure that the company’s transport operations are meeting their needs and expectations
• Maintaining accurate records and producing regular reports on transport performance, including KPIs and other metrics
• Managing the organisation’s O licence and associated compliance
• Supplier management – ensuring suppliers are competitively measured and offering expected service levels
• Responding to any road traffic accidents associated to the fleet to ensure they are properly responded to and investigated
• Effective management of insurance claims associated to the fleet
• Ensuring telematics, tracking, and camera equipment is properly utilised and in good working order
• Management of the company’s in house developed Vehicle Management System to automate processes and improve efficiency as much as possible
• Line management of the Fleet and Operations Coordinator

Requirements of Candidate:

• Valid UK CPC licence.
• A proven track record in transport management, ideally with experience in managing a fleet with a mix of vans and trucks
• Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions
• Knowledge of relevant legislation, including drivers’ hours regulations and tachograph rules
• Experience in managing drivers’ holiday hours and absences
• Familiarity with transport management systems and other relevant technology
• A full driving license and a good driving record
• A professional and approachable demeanour, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
