Our client, A Large public sector organisation, based in the Belfast area is looking for an Veterinary Inspector to join their team.

Duration: Initially expected to last for 6 months with an option to extend

Rate of pay: £25.14

Location: Belfast

Hours: Shift Working Portal Vets currently work 12 hour shifts:
0700 to 1900 Day shift (D) and 1900 to 0700 night shift (N), 7 days per week on a 4 weekly rotation which includes rest days (R).

Main Duties:

For consignments entering Northern Ireland, as perOCR requirements –
– Carry out documentary checks on livestock and products of animal origin.
– Carry out identity checks on livestock and products of animal origin.
– Carry out physical and welfare checks on livestock and products of animal origin.
– Record above information on CHIP system and Traces NT
– Communicate with hauliers and transporters and deal with legislative queries.
– Take responsibility for team of portal inspectors and associated staff.
NB: This is an indication of the nature of the duties so is not prescriptive.

Essential Criteria:

1a. Be a Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS/FRCVS)
OR
1b. Be eligible to seek membership of the RCVS*
* Please note that the successful candidate, if not already fully registered with the RCVS, will be required to obtain registration in a timescale deemed reasonable by the Department and prior to taking up appointment, and must remain on the register while in the post.
AND
2. Have at least one year’s cumulative experience** working with farmed animals or in veterinary public health.
** This experience can be gained before graduation.
AND
3. Provision of confirmation a commitment to work (a) full time on the rota over a 4 week period
or
(b) part time on some shifts which they should specify they can commit to over a 4-week period.

The only stipulation that they must cover a full shift on each day/night worked. A full shift is working either 7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am
