Invest in Wellbeing To Improve Retention.
A healthy workforce is a happy workforce, right? In order to get the most out of your employees it’s sensible to assume that they must be treated well and valued within the workplace. But not enough companies are aware of this, and so neglect the wants and needs of their office.
Wellbeing
Probably the most fundamental need for an employee is happiness. Without happiness, work becomes trivial. A chore. Something to do between breakfast and tea. Employees need to feel valued, be driven, and be rewarded.
Respecting workplace wellbeing also leads to reduced stress; a major cause of work-related mental health problems. Our lives are hectic enough without dreading coming to work in the mornings. This can manifest itself in many ways, such as insomnia, lack of appetite, or social anxiety. The workplace should be a creative environment that breeds productivity through passion.
Once positive productivity is increased, workers will feel more satisfaction from their job. As opposed to just getting the job done for fear of failure. A happy workforce is a productive workforce.
As the working environment transforms itself into a more positive entity, it can influence employees and boost that working output. Because everyone wants to feel those positive vibes.
Retention
What employee wellbeing translates into is employee retention. But why is this such a big deal? Sure, you can just get someone else in to replace those parts of the jigsaw who don’t seem to fit; but is this progressive? Is this sustainable?
The average price of a new hire in the UK is over £30,000, meaning that constant staff turnover is a huge financial hit for any business. Replacing those who have gone onto pastures new may be unavoidable in some circumstances, but those that aren’t need to be addressed
A vital part of any business is company culture, which is intrinsically linked to employee wellbeing. Retaining workers means that they can gel together and learn the ins and outs of, not only each other, but the business as a whole. This then breeds a successful team, and so the cycle begins again.
