We are recruiting an experienced Accountant to join our client in Knockbracken, Belfast

Band 7 : Rate of pay : £24.45 per hour

Hours: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Start Date: Immediate
6 months initially

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 7 Accountant to join our team on a temporary ongoing basis. The postholder will work across both Management Accounts and Financial Services, providing high‑quality professional financial support to ensure the effective delivery of financial management, financial accounting, governance, reporting and control activities across the Trust.

This senior role requires strong technical expertise, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to support both operational decision‑making and corporate priorities. The successful candidate will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information, support directorates in financial planning, and contribute directly to the Trust’s financial governance and performance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Management & Support

  • Provide specialist financial support and advice to Senior Managers and budget holders.
  • Lead on the development of business cases and service proposals, including robust financial analysis and costing.
  • Investigate variances, identify financial risks and support the development of corrective action plans.
  • Assist with annual budget setting, budgetary control and financial monitoring.

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Support the preparation of Trust financial plans, monthly reporting and monitoring returns.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, assessing interdependencies and financial impacts.
  • Assist in preparing statutory accounts, including revenue, capital and charitable fund accounts.
  • Ensure timely completion of Whole of Government Accounts and TFR E&S Returns.

Financial Governance & Controls

  • Maintain strong financial control systems, including reconciliation of all control accounts and payroll interfaces.
  • Support the development, maintenance and documentation of financial accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ensure effective capital accounting and maintenance of the asset register.
  • Provide specialist technical accounting advice in line with DoH and Trust governance frameworks.
  • Liaise with internal and external audit teams and support the implementation of recommendations.

Procurement & Contract Management

  • Maintain oversight of Trust contract registers to ensure compliance with governance frameworks.
  • Support procurement and contract management processes, providing guidance on policy and procedures.
  • Identify risks or gaps in contract information and prepare relevant reports.
  • Act as a point of contact for directorates on procurement and contract compliance matters.

Essential Criteria

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year’s finance experience following successful completion of final professional accountancy exams.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with a range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
  • At least 2 years’ experience demonstrating people management, governance, leadership and organisational skills.

Qualifications / Registration

  • Full membership of one of the five CCAB bodies or CIMA.

Other Requirements

  • A full current UK driving licence and access to a car.
