Accounting Technician – Lisburn

£19.72 per hour | 36.25 hours per week | Monday to Friday
Immediate Start | Public Sector | Temporary to Permanent Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Accounting Technician to join our public sector client based in Lisburn.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Accounting Technician with strong financial accounting, reconciliation and Excel skills to join a busy and professional Finance Team. The successful candidate will provide technical and administrative support, assisting with financial reporting, month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations and the maintenance of accurate financial records.

For the right candidate, there is the potential for this temporary position to become permanent.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the preparation of internal financial reports and year-end statutory accounts
  • Supporting month-end and year-end accounting procedures
  • Preparing journals and completing financial reconciliations
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Assisting with financial returns and management information
  • Extracting, analysing and reporting financial data using Microsoft Excel
  • Assisting with non-current asset reconciliations
  • Maintaining the Asset Register, including additions, disposals and revaluations
  • Supporting treasury management activities, including cash balances, drawdown of funds and online payments
  • Providing information for internal and external audits
  • Supporting the development and improvement of finance systems and processes
  • Assisting with the implementation and migration of new financial software
  • Maintaining appropriate records in line with GDPR and records management requirements
  • Responding professionally to internal and external queries
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships across the Finance Team and wider organisation

Essential Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grades A-C / 9-4, or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics
  • Fully qualified Accounting Technician, with full membership of a recognised professional body such as AAT or ATI
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a Finance environment in a large organisation

Applicants must have previous experience of:

  • Preparing financial journals
  • Completing month-end and/or year-end reconciliations
  • Working with a computerised accounts package
  • Using advanced Excel skills to capture, analyse and report financial data
  • Using accounting software systems, including fixed asset software

Candidates should also demonstrate:

  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to provide accurate financial information within required timescales
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Competence across Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within local government or the public sector

Additional Requirement

Applicants must hold a full, current UK driving licence or have access to a suitable form of transport that enables them to fulfil the requirements of the role.
