The post holder will be based in the THC, Royal Courts of Justice, Belfast. The role of the post is to provide effective and efficient administrative support for the Review Tribunal and also clerk support for the UK First-Tier Tribunals including Asylum & Immigration, Asylum Support, Information, and Tax Tribunals as required.

The THC staff are required to work as a team with each other, members of the judiciary, panel members and stakeholders supporting the progression and disposal of tribunal business. This includes the administration of cases from receipt to final disposal, scheduling of and attendance at hearings, and following up on the tribunal’s decisions after a hearing. The THC has a flexible team-working environment, so while the post holder will be assigned to a specific tribunal, they may be expected to assist other tribunals as the need arises and rotate within sections.

The precise nature of the work and the degree to which some or all of the following is applied will be dependent on the section to which the post holder is assigned. Duties will typically include:

  • Undertaking administrative duties in line with job cards and guidance established by the relevant tribunal
  • Providing secretarial support to tribunal chairpersons and panel members including preparation for and attendance at hearings and meetings
  • Acting as hearing clerk for both NI and UK tribunals
  • Ensuring that tribunals’ business is delivered in strict compliance with all departmental HR and Information Assurance policies and guidelines
  • Maintaining and updating the tribunals case management database system and other computer systems as required
  • Providing accurate advice and information to a wide range of customers
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge in at least two other Tribunals based in the THC
  • Providing assistance to other AO’s in any other tribunal when requested by local management
  • Supporting line management in all aspects of business performance and service delivery
  • Compliance with Department’s disposal schedules and managing file storage both in office and for off-site storage
  • Keeping up to date with changes in legislation/policy practice.
