We are currently recruiting for an Agricultural Grade 3 Staff Officer based in Cookstown
Start date: ASAP
Rate of pay: £19.59ph
Hours of work: 37 – Monday to Friday 9am-5pm
Location: Rivers HQ Loughry Cookstown

Key Responsibilities:
The main duties of the post are:
* Considering proposed works from an environmental perspective and
advising on the need for a full environmental impact assessment;
* Ensuring that all works are assessed under the appropriate
environmental assessment regulations;
* Undertaking various types of environmental surveys including preworks
walk-over surveys and river corridor surveys, post works audit
surveys and geo-morphological surveys. This will entail accessing
construction sites and watercourses through rough terrain and
remote from public roads;
* Assisting in the evaluation of works assigned to and executed by
environmental consultants;
* Contributing to the achievement of agreed working recommendations;
* Providing guidance on good working practices for sensitive river
maintenance;
* Consulting with the Government and non-Government conservation
bodies and interest groups;
* Representing DfI Rivers on environmental committees and working
groups;
* Negotiating formal agreements for maintenance works within or
adjacent to important conservation designation sites;
* Identifying opportunities for environmental improvement;
* Drafting environmental policy, procedures and technical guidance
notes;
* Preparing and issuing responses to consultations on behalf of DfI
Rivers;
* Providing up-to-date environmental advice and information to staff
from other disciplines;
* Representing DfI Rivers in conservation lead river related partnership
projects;
* Producing environmental training material and conducting
environmental training courses for staff;
Essential Experience:
Applicants must by the closing date for applications:
1. Hold at least a second class Honours Degree in one of the following
subjects: Biology, Fisheries Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science
or a closely related subject*
*example of closely related subjects – Zoology, Geography or Botany
AND
2.
A minimum of one years experience gained in two or more of the following:
– Freshwater Ecology;
– Fisheries Biology;
– Environmental Surveys;
– Environmental Impact Assessments/Habitat Regulations Assessments;
– Conservation Legislation and Policy;
– Hydrology/Hydromorphology
AND
3. Access to a form of transport which will permit the applicant to meet the
requirements of the post in full.
Applications will also be considered from applicants with relevant formal
qualifications considered by the selection panel to be of an equivalent or
higher standard to those stated.
Relevant or equivalent qualifications: give the type of qualification and date
awarded (the date awarded is the date on which you were notified of your
result by the official awarding body). If you believe your qualification is
equivalent to the one required, the onus is on you to provide the panel with
details of modules studied etc so that a well-informed decision can be made.
Desired Experience –
A minimum of 2 years relevant post qualification experience gained in two or more of the following:
– Freshwater Ecology;
– Fisheries Biology;
– Environmental Surveys;
– Environmental Impact Assessments/Habitat Regulations Assessments;
– Conservation Legislation and Policy;
– Hydrology/Hydromorphology
