Job Title: Benefits Expert
Salary: Competitive (DOE)
Location: Manchester Hybrid once trained
Work Type: Office based (full time) – Monday to Friday

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive support and advice to colleagues and clients regarding Welfare Benefit inquiries.
  • Conduct eligibility checks, assess award letters, perform routine benefits calculations, and conduct yearly Welfare Benefit reviews.
  • Notify the Department for Work and Pensions of any changes in circumstances affecting Welfare Benefit income.
  • Advise on available sources of income, assisting individuals in maximise their income through Welfare Benefits.
  • Challenge incorrect decisions, submit mandatory reconsideration, and handle appeals.
  • Stay abreast of Welfare Benefit regulations and apply them effectively to client circumstances.
  • Complete Health and Disability questions for all relevant Welfare Benefits.
  • Prepare and submit appeal submissions for tribunal hearings, representing clients who are unable to represent themselves.
  • Conduct Welfare Benefits training for internal and external colleagues.

The Person / Experience:

  • Proven and ongoing experience in providing Welfare Benefits advice.
  • Advanced knowledge of Welfare Benefits, with the ability to handle complex issues in a system where Universal Credit and legacy benefits coexist.
  • Familiarity with how compensation claims are treated by the Department for Work and Pensions.
  • Experience in challenging Welfare Benefits decisions at all levels, preparing legal arguments based on social security legislation and recent case law.
  • Proficient in checking benefit awards, performing calculations, and identifying entitlements to benefits, additional elements, premiums, rates, and backdated payments.
  • Ability to explore and apply welfare benefit regulations to maximise income.
