Biomedical Scientist – Band 6

The Recruitment Co. is currently recruiting for an experienced Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join the laboratory team at Enniskillen.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to work within a busy laboratory environment, supporting the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and accredited Haematology, Blood Transfusion and Clinical Chemistry service.

Working Hours

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the department’s shift rota, with the role primarily covering night shifts.

• Routine Days: Monday to Friday, 9.00am – 5.00pm
• Extended Days: Monday to Sunday, 9.00am – 8.00pm
• Night Shifts: Monday to Sunday, 8.00pm – 9.00am

Applicants must be flexible and available to participate in the above shifts as required to support the provision of a 24-hour laboratory service.

Key Responsibilities

Duties will include:

• Performing routine and specialist laboratory investigations relevant to Haematology, Blood Transfusion and associated laboratory services.
• Ensuring all laboratory procedures are completed accurately and in line with departmental policies, Standard Operating Procedures and UKAS accreditation requirements.
• Maintaining accurate documentation relating to specimens, testing and laboratory results.
• Participating in internal and external quality control and quality assurance processes.
• Managing and prioritising workload effectively to meet operational requirements.
• Monitoring reagent and consumable stock levels and reporting requirements to senior staff.
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety, infection control, confidentiality and clinical governance.
• Supporting audit, research and development activities where required.
• Communicating effectively with Biomedical Scientists, Healthcare Science Assistants, administrative colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
• Participating in ongoing training, professional development and performance review.
• Working independently when required, including providing out-of-hours and lone-worker cover.
• Reporting incidents appropriately and supporting departmental risk management procedures.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
• Have completed an IBMS Specialist Diploma, or equivalent, in the relevant discipline.
• Have at least one year’s post-HCPC registration experience in the relevant discipline.

OR

• Have been employed as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) in the relevant discipline for 3 of the last 6 years, while maintaining HCPC registration and currently appearing on the register.
• Hold a current full driving licence valid for use in the UK and have access to a car upon appointment. This requirement may be waived for applicants whose disability prevents them from driving, provided they have access to an alternative form of transport approved by the Trust.
