Initial Core Hours for Training → Moving to 24/7 Shift Rotation (Nights & Weekends Included)

£19.78 per hour

We are urgently seeking an experienced and highly skilled Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our Core and Out of Hours team across the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratories in Craigavon and Newry.

This role supports essential 24/7 diagnostic services, working both as part of a team and as a lone worker during out-of-hours shifts. Candidates must be able to travel between both sites.

STRICT ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

Candidates must meet all of the following:

Qualifications & Compliance

• HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist (current and valid).
• IBMS Specialist Diploma (Haematology with Hospital Transfusion Practice)
  OR BBTS Specialist Certificate
  (Candidates without a completed specialist portfolio or BBTS certification cannot be considered.)
• Recent evidence of competency within a UK transfusion environment to meet safety standards for lone-working and participation in shift rotas.

Technical Expertise Required

Haematology

• Extensive experience with Sysmex XN-series analysers and track systems.
• Film reading proficiency – Highly desirable.

Coagulation

• Significant experience with ACL TOP analysers – Highly desirable.

Transfusion

• Full competency on Bio-Rad IH‑500 / IH‑1000 automation.
• Skilled in manual gel card techniques (DiaMed).

LIMS

• Experience with WinPath – Preferred.
