Position: Business Consultant (SO)

Pay Rate: £19.59 per hour

Hours: Full time 9 – 5pm Mon to Fri

Duration: 4/10/26 with possibility of extension

Start Date: ASAP

Job Duties:

The main duties and responsibilities are:
Assist in Policy Development
• Identify, adequately define and frame the issue/problem to be addressed.
• Assist in the development of policy including reviewing existing policies, assessing rural research and evidence, identifying policy options and developing policy proposals & OBC’s.
• Idea generation – develop range of ideas/interventions/solutions to be scoped.
Other Responsibilities
• Providing support as required to Policy Leads and the Head of Branch.
• Drafting of Ministerial / Assembly / Perm Secretary correspondence.
• Representing the Department on engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
• Monitoring and updating of Branch Balanced Scorecard.
• These posts may involve staff management responsibilities.

Essential Criteria:

  • 5 GCSE’s A*-C including Maths and English (must be able to show evidence)
  • The post holders must demonstrate:• Knowledge of a policy development environment.
    • Strong leadership, interpersonal and communications skills as well as good analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Good organisational and planning skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • A good working knowledge in use of Content Manager.
    • Have good knowledge of using software packages e.g., Microsoft office.
    • They can acquire knowledge in an area, absorb the key issues and to work with others with a focus on achieving key deliverables.
    • They are responsive, open to change and can adapt to a changing environment.
    • They are innovative and able to suggest ideas for improvements.
    • They create and maintain positive working relationships to achieve business objectives.
    • They can plan, organise and manage their time and activities to deliver a high quality and efficient service.
    • Ability to work on own initiative.
    • A degree with a minimum of 12 months’ experience

    The post holders will be expected to work on their own initiative and provide a positive contribution to the overall success of the team.

 

Desired Criteria:

  • Previous experience working is central or local government in a policy role would be desirable.
