Job Title: Civil Engineer

Location: Lanyon Place, Belfast – travel to locations throughout Northern Ireland will be required.

Main Purpose: The Civil Engineer plays a pivotal role in delivering a high-quality civil/structural/construction engineering consultancy service to various parts of the organization across locations in Northern Ireland. Working closely with the Senior Civil Engineer, the incumbent will be responsible for structural inspections, assessment of estate infrastructure, design, and providing expert advice while adhering to the organization’s vision and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Structural Inspections and Reports:

    • Independently conduct structural inspections of properties, including non-traditional construction, and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for remedial work.
    • Assess and inspect estate infrastructure, including foundations, retaining walls, roads, sewers, and sewage treatment plants, providing expert advice and guidance for necessary remedial actions.
  2. Design and Documentation:

    • Prepare designs for estate infrastructure components, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and obtaining necessary approvals.
    • Create detailed drawings in AutoCAD format and prepare comprehensive designs for foundations, ground beams, steel, and RC beams.
  3. Consultation and Communication:

    • Provide briefs to external consultants/contractors regarding property repairs, improvements, and estate infrastructure projects.
    • Liaise effectively with stakeholders, including local authorities, tenants, and community representatives, ensuring open and transparent communication.
  4. Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensure civil engineering services adhere to the organization’s policies, procedures, and legislation, actively contributing to their development.
    • Provide regular progress reports to the Senior Civil Engineer and attend internal monitoring meetings to report on program delivery.
    • Create detailed written and drawn reports, including presentations, for internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Continuous Improvement and Professional Development:

    • Promote continuous improvement within the team, challenging current performance standards and exploring innovative ways of working.
    • Engage in benchmarking activities to ensure the organization follows best practices in asset management.
    • Undertake professional development activities to maintain relevant knowledge and skills, supporting individual annual performance development plans.

Essential Criteria:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree (Level 6) in Civil Engineering or equivalent Level 6 qualification with 2 years’ relevant experience in a Building/Construction/Engineering discipline, OR BTEC Higher Cert/Diploma or equivalent with 3 years’ relevant experience in a Building/Construction/Engineering discipline, OR demonstrate equivalent continuing professional development or experiential learning with 5 years relevant experience.
  • Competent in the use of AutoCAD or other drafting packages.
  • Experience in applying Building Regulations and/or construction-related British or European Standards.
  • Experience in technical investigations of buildings and construction infrastructure, producing reports with recommendations.
  • Competent in the use of structural design packages.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, strong interpersonal and influencing skills, effective oral and written communication skills, including technical report preparation and presentation.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Competency in drainage design packages.
  • Experience working within the NEC3 form of contract.

Special Requirements:

  • Possess a full, current UK driving license or have access to a form of transport enabling fulfillment of job requirements.
