MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The role holder will assist the Director and Chief Executive in carrying out the duties of the Office of Identity and Cultural Expression, including taking forward external communications to promote the work of the Office of Identity and Cultural Expression, and other matters of interest, ensuring all stakeholders have access to these in a timely, sensitive and appropriate manner.
This is a high-profile area, requiring evidence of sensitivity and a level of political awareness.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERSONAL DUTIES
- Develop a communications plan, including profile-raising activities through consistent, quality content of social media channels and the development and management of the Office’s website.
- Develop and deliver targeted communication materials, including a range of online and printed publication materials, such as newsletters, leaflets, flyers, press releases, social media content and organise online and face to face meetings and events as required.
- Monitor and analyse media coverage and develop appropriate responses to both positive and negative coverage.
- Establish and maintain an appropriate social media presence for the Office of Identity and Cultural Expression, monitor social media and website activity daily. Responsible for updating the organisation’s website and social media.
- Lead on event management of corporate and other external events.
- Work with other officers to identify key findings and bring forward appropriate draft briefings on areas relating to Officer’s duties to advise policy makers.
- Work with other officers to conduct research into systemic or thematic matters relevant to national and cultural identity and heritage including scoping sources of data and identifying gaps and challenges.

- Line management for EO2 officers, as necessary.
- Collate, analyse and prepare draft correspondence, information, briefings, consultation responses, speeches and reports as required to assist management in progressing key areas across policy and research.
- Promote awareness of the Office and create opportunities for individuals and organisations to engage and develop appropriate contacts within stakeholder organisations to establish effective working relationships and communication channels.
- Provide communication and policy support across the organisation.
- Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Essential
- Relevant undergraduate degree.
- A minimum of at least three years’ experience working in a policy and communications post at Staff Officer level or equivalent.
- At least two years’ experience of line management.
- Proven experience in developing and delivering targeted communication materials, including press releases, social media content, leaflets, newsletters and so on.
- Proven experience in communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, including through developing and disseminating communication materials for different stakeholder audiences, including reports, presentations and online content.
- Excellent IT skills, including in MS Office, information management tools and software, presenting data and information in a variety of formats.
- Access to own car in order to fulfil the requirements of the role
