Position: Communications Officer
Location: House of Sport, Belfast
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 3 to 6 months (with the possibility of extension)
Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (37 hours per week)
Rate of Pay: £17.94 per hour


About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and skilled Communications Officer to join Sport NI’s team at the House of Sport in Belfast. This is an exciting opportunity for a communications professional to make a significant impact by delivering innovative and effective communication strategies that highlight the power of sport and Sport NI’s initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

Communications

  • Deliver Sport NI’s communications function, building a strong hub with expertise in PR, advocacy, marketing, digital, and social media.
  • Implement Sport NI’s comprehensive communications plan tailored to diverse stakeholder needs.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with the media, ensuring Sport NI’s messaging is clear and impactful.
  • Collaborate with PR officers from sports organisations to ensure consistent representation of Sport NI and National Lottery contributions.
  • Develop and manage Sport NI’s social media strategy, creating engaging content and fostering influential relationships.
  • Plan and execute targeted news stories and features across various platforms, including newsletters, social media, and the web.
  • Partner with internal teams to promote programmes and demonstrate the Power of Sport.
  • Support the implementation of public affairs strategies in partnership with the Policy & Insights Team.
  • Create a variety of digital and print communication materials that reflect Sport NI’s brand and mission.
  • Develop key messages and presentations for the Chair, CEO, and Executive Team for public addresses and high-level meetings.

Corporate Management

  • Ensure alignment of communication outputs with Sport NI’s business and corporate objectives, delivered on time and within budget.
  • Monitor, report, and evaluate team and project performance to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Perform additional duties aligned with the role’s objectives, demonstrating commitment to Sport NI’s values.

Essential Criteria

  • Education: Relevant degree or equivalent third-level qualification (e.g., PR, Marketing, Communications, Journalism).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year (full-time or equivalent) in a press office, PR agency, editorial team, or similar communications role.
    • Alternatively, 2 years of full-time equivalent experience in similar environments.
  • Proven expertise in creating diverse communication products and managing multiple digital platforms (social media, web content).
  • Demonstrable experience in positioning, timing, and targeting news stories to achieve quality coverage.
  • Strong media network connections to promote positive news stories.
  • Ability to build and maintain partnerships and relationships with organisations.
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to distill complex concepts into clear, effective messages.

Desired Experience

  • Additional experience in preparing targeted media and communication materials.
  • Demonstrable success in leveraging current communication techniques and forging strategic relationships to support organisational goals.
