Job Opportunity: Conservation Blacksmith
Location: Moira
Pay: £12.54 per hour (Paid Weekly)
Hours:
- Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 1:15 PM
Start Date: 20th March 2025
Duration: Until 31st December 2025 (Possible Extension)
Job Duties:
The Conservation Blacksmith will contribute to the maintenance, conservation, and preservation of State Care sites under Historic Environment Division (HED). Responsibilities include:
- Operating appropriate machinery, including forge and hand tools.
- Creating ironmongery items to a high standard of conservation craftwork.
- Making templates and producing technical drawings.
- Manufacturing steel railings, stairs, and handrails.
- Crafting detailed ironmongery for doors, windows, and gates.
- Cleaning, repairing, and restoring ironmongery elements in structures, buildings, and monuments.
- Dismantling, repairing, and reassembling elements both on-site and in the workshop.
- Erecting on-site materials and ironmongery produced in the workshop.
- Loading and unloading materials for transport.
- Driving departmental vehicles, including the transport of colleagues and materials.
- Completing documentation as required.
- Performing general labour duties.
- Attending training sessions as required.
Essential Criteria:
- Two years’ experience in welding and fabrication.
- Possess a full, current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland.
- Willingness to complete a Basic Access NI Background Check (Facilitated by TRC).
Desired Criteria:
- NVQ Level 2 and/or City & Guilds in Welding/Fabrication or an equivalent qualification.
