Position: Covid Inquiry Secretariat Support Officer (EO2)

Pay Rate: £15.83 per hour

Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week, flexible arrangements will apply

Duration: 30 June 2026

Job Duties:

This is a fast-paced post contributing to response delivery in relation to the UK Covid-19 Public Inquiry.

Core tasks include:
• Oversee administrative support to the Covid-19 Inquiry Team and provide cover for Manage the Covid-19 Inquiry mailbox
• Support in the Coordination of requests for and returns of information, including FOI requests and AQs and maintain accurate records of same.
• Provision of advice and guidance on Inquiry related processes to individuals and business areas.
• Take minutes of Inquiry Team and Secretariat meetings in relation to Inquiry work.
• Responsibility for monitoring requests for divisional financial processes, administration and reporting, to include:
• Process payments via Account NI and monitoring of expenditure. Provide updates to line management as and when required.
• Assisting with the completion of in year and end of year financial exercises e.g. over/underspend;
• Co-ordination of monthly finance returns such as Accruals/ cash forecast and profiling of budgets;
• Provide records management support to the team and fulfil the role of Power User
• Further duties will be dictated by the progress of the Inquiry.
• Staff supervision responsibilities.In busy periods help colleagues with delivery of reports and meetings.
• Previous EOII-level experience, including experience with budget/financial administration. Good attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are required.
• Excellent level of computer literacy and Microsoft Office packages such as Excel, Word, TEAMs, and Outlook.
• The post holder should have the ability to analyse information and make recommendations or escalate issues appropriately within their branch. They also should have experience of working with a wide range of colleagues and senior managers and must have excellent written and oral communication skills to fulfil this role.
• The post holder must be able to manage their time effectively, work both independently and as part of a team, liaise with colleagues and have a high level of accuracy in a fast paced, evolving and at times, contentious environment.
• The post holder should be open to new ways of working and be committed to continuous improvement.

This is not an extensive list of duties, and the post holder should be aware that the specific activities may vary as the Inquiry progresses. Where needed, training will be given.


 

Essential Criteria:

  • 5 GCSE’s A*-C including Maths and English (must be able to show evidence)
  • 2 A-Levels in separate subjects at a passing grade (must be able to show evidence)

 

Desired Experience: 

• Good organisational and planning skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Have good knowledge of using software packages e.g., Microsoft office
