Our client, a large public sector agency, are currently hiring a Farm Manager/Premises Officer!
Job Title: Farm Manager – Premises Officer
Duration: Less than 51 Weeks
Rate of Pay: £17.38
Start Date: ASAP – Must be fully registered in order to start
Location: Crossnacreevy
Hours: 37 Hours Per Week (8:30am-4:30pm) Monday to Friday
Main Duties of the Role –
To lead, manage and work alongside a team of 7 industrial farm staff to deliver high quality support and assistance to the scientific team at Crossnacreevy, and when necessary, support to other scientific programmes.
To work closely with project leaders and other scientific staff at Crossnacreevy to help plan for research and advisory/knowledge transfer work.
Responsible for organisation, prioritisation, and delegation of tasks from a work list provided by the three trial managers at Crossnacreevy.
To plan for efficient use of land at the Crossnacreevy farm (approximately 32 ha) and off-farm sites to meet the business needs of the arable and herbage programmes.
Responsible for the supervision of maintenance of both standard and specialist equipment essential for trial management.
To liaise with other farm staff to drive efficiencies in the use of the land platform and capital equipment.
Supervision of the maintenance of field trials, roadways, hedges, gates and boundaries within the Crossnacreevy estate. Use and maintenance of field based machinery and environmental control equipment used in trials work. Provide accurate information to the Basic Payment Scheme annual submission.
Develop business cases and deliver procurement of farm machinery and capital projects to improve the Crossnacreevy farm estate.
Support and assist the arable and grassland project leads maintaining high standards of corporate governance, budget planning and control and staff management.
Maintain Health and Safety compliance linked to Standard Operating Procedure documentation for the relevant work areas (especially field based processes). Report on H&S matters for the Crossnacreevy site.
Keep self and reporting staff up to date with training and training for staff to fulfil the necessary duties.
Essential Criteria –
GCSE level or 3rd level qualification (equivalent to A Level) in Maths and English.
At least 2 years’ experience of managing a team and be able to demonstrate by way of example, experience of working in the agricultural industry
Computer literate
Have a full driving license that enables them to undertake the responsibilities of the role
Desirable Skills –
- Experience in operating a range of farm machinery.
- Experience in an agricultural setting with knowledge of crop (such as grass) husbandry.
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Show attention to detail and capable to adapt and prioritise a busy workload
