Health & Safety Advisor
Location: Newtownabbey
Hours: 37 per week, Monday–Friday (08:00–16:00)
Hourly Rate: £19.32
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health & Safety Advisor to provide professional support across Health & Safety Services. This role covers a wide range of essential duties, including policy development, workplace inspections, audits, incident investigation, and supporting staff and managers to meet statutory responsibilities.
Working as part of a dedicated team, you will help maintain a safe working environment, enhance organisational awareness, and promote best practice across all work areas.
Key Responsibilities
Policy & Procedures
- Develop, review, and maintain Health & Safety policies and processes.
- Promote awareness and support consistent implementation across departments.
Inspections & Audit
- Carry out workplace inspections and audits, issuing reports and corrective action plans.
- Support internal and external auditors with timely and accurate information.
Training
- Develop and deliver internal Health & Safety training.
- Promote attendance at mandatory sessions and update training content based on legislation and feedback.
Support & Guidance
- Assist with risk assessments (General H&S, COSHH, Noise, Manual Handling, DSE, etc.).
- Maintain KPIs, records, statistics, and reporting data.
- Provide professional advice on legislation and specialist queries.
Incident Management
- Ensure timely completion of incident reports and investigations.
- Lead IR4 investigations when required.
- Report RIDDOR incidents to HSENI and liaise on follow‑up actions.
Committees & Representation
- Attend Corporate H&S Committee meetings and liaise with trade union representatives.
- Support business cases, tender processes, and organisational improvement initiatives.
General Duties
- Provide high‑quality internal and external service.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Deputise for the DLO H&S/Environmental Manager when required.
Essential Requirements
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- IOSH membership appropriate to qualification
- 1–5 years’ experience, including minimum three years as a Health & Safety Advisor
- Intermediate IT skills
- Access to own transport for site visits
- Basic Access NI check
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
