Radiology Department

Locations: Newry
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday9 am – 5pm
Pay rate : £12.75 per hour

The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced administrator to join the Radiology Team as a Higher Clerical Officer (Band 3).

The successful candidate will provide high-quality administrative and clerical support, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient day-to-day running of the Radiology Department.

This is a busy, patient-focused role requiring excellent organisational skills, accuracy and the ability to communicate professionally with patients, healthcare professionals and external agencies.

Key Responsibilities

Duties will include:

  • Managing patient information and radiology requests using computerised systems including Sectra RIS, PACS and Encompass.
  • Booking inpatient and outpatient radiology appointments across a range of modalities.
  • Prioritising appointments according to clinical priority, staff availability and any special preparation requirements.
  • Providing reception cover and dealing professionally with telephone and face-to-face enquiries.
  • Confirming appointments with patients and helping to minimise non-attendance and maximise appointment capacity.
  • Processing cancelled and missed appointments in line with departmental procedures.
  • Arranging interpreters and ambulance transport where required.
  • Monitoring and actioning relevant radiology worklists and reports.
  • Processing Medico-Legal, Litigation and Subject Access Requests within required timescales.
  • Printing and distributing authorised radiology reports to relevant clinicians, wards and departments.
  • Requesting patient notes and X-rays from other hospitals when required.
  • Carrying out general administrative duties including scanning, photocopying, email correspondence and document management.
  • Liaising effectively with clinical staff, external agencies, patients, relatives and members of the public.
  • Supporting and assisting with the training of Band 2 clerical staff where required.
  • Providing administrative support across Radiology Departments within the Trust depending on service requirements.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • 4 GCSEs at Grades A-C, including English Language, or an equivalent/higher qualification, AND at least 1 year’s experience in a clerical/administrative role
    OR
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a clerical/administrative role.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Word.
  • A current full driving licence valid for use in the UK and access to a car on appointment.
