Hospital Sterilisation & Disinfection Unit Assistant – Band 2
Location: Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex / South West Acute Hospital
£12.71 per hour
Temporary position
The Recruitment Co. is currently recruiting for Hospital Sterilisation & Disinfection Unit (HSDU) Assistants to work within the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit at Omagh Hospital & Primary Care Complex and/or South West Acute Hospital.
This is an important role supporting the safe and effective decontamination, sterilisation and preparation of medical devices and surgical instruments used across hospital services.
Key Responsibilities
As an HSDU Assistant, your duties will include:
- Cleaning, decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packing and sterilising reusable medical devices and surgical instruments.
- Collecting, checking and accurately recording instruments and reusable items from wards, theatres and endoscopy units.
- Preparing and assembling theatre trays in line with departmental procedures and checklists.
- Operating specialist decontamination equipment, including washer-disinfectors and autoclaves.
- Using barcode and IT systems to maintain accurate traceability of instruments, trays and endoscopes.
- Monitoring equipment performance and completing relevant documentation and checks.
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and health and safety.
- Monitoring stock levels and ensuring required supplies are available.
- Working closely with colleagues across HSDU, theatres and other hospital departments.
- Participating in training, competency assessments and ongoing development.
- Working in accordance with departmental procedures, quality management systems and decontamination standards.
Essential Criteria
5 GCSE grades A – C or equivalent including English Language
OR
1 years’ experience of working in a HSDU or hospital setting
OR
2 years’ experience in an assembly/ production setting
In addition to the above applicants must undertake a Level 3 diploma in Healthcare and Social Care Support Skills (Decontamination) on completion of 1 year service
This position requires excellent attention to detail and the ability to consistently work to high standards. You will form part of a busy team responsible for ensuring medical devices and surgical instrumentation are safely processed and ready for use.
