Industrial Fish Farm Operative Movanagher – BALLYMONEY

Pay Rate: Salary will be within the range £26,449 (£13.39421 per hour) – £28,094 (£14.54593 per hour) (under review), within which pay progression will be performance related.

Location: DAERA Inland Fisheries, Ballymoney

Start Date: ASAP

Expected Duration: 4th October 2026 with possibility of extension

Working Hours: The normal conditioned hours of work are full-time: 37 hours net Monday to Friday. Normal working hours are 08:00-16:30 Monday – Thursday & 08:00 – 13:30 Friday, though specific hours may vary subject to business need

Requirements: 5 GCSE’S C and Above (Including Maths and English) A full, current driving license enabling the licence holder to drive in Northern Ireland.

Main Duties include:

  • Assisting staff with the efficient operation of a fish production facility.
  • Feeding of fish in accordance with the feeding regimes as directed by farm management.
  • Cleaning and disinfection of fish holding units and working areas associated with the production of fish.
  • Carrying out general maintenance duties on site, as instructed by farm management.
  • Maintaining water flows through the farm by means of screen cleaning and regulation.
  • Reporting to farm management fish behaviour and health issues that may occur.
  • Treating fish health problems, as instructed by farm management and any other fish husbandry duties that are required.
  • Carrying out broodstock husbandry, artificial reproduction and incubation of ova and fish, including pressure treating of ova to triploid.
  • Sample weighting, grading, counting and transportation of fish on site.
  • Delivery and stocking out of fish to rivers and lakes throughout Northern Ireland via HGV and/or 4×4 vehicles.
  • Comply with the Department’s Health and Safety policy, maintain standards and use all appropriate personal protective equipment supplied and attend relevant training courses as directed by management.
