Job Title: Lead Engineer

Location: Leigh

Salary: £51,000 per annum

Shift Pattern: 4 on 4 off (2 days, 2 nights)

    Qualifications and Skills:

  • The ideal candidate will possess:

    • Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety (IOSH certification is preferable).
    • Multiskilled, electrically biased, time-served engineer with HNC level or above qualifications.
    • Proficiency in computer literacy with a knowledge of CMMS systems.
    • Experience in Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), preferably in the food industry.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities:

As the Lead Engineer, you will be responsible and accountable for the engineering shift performance, ensuring that our operations run smoothly. Your main duties will include:

  • Knowing the current performance of the production lines during your shift and allocating engineering resources accordingly.
  • Effectively planning and supervising the workload of the line engineers.
  • Carrying out ongoing repairs and maintenance across the site.
  • Ensuring Engineering Work Requests are completed within agreed timescales and carrying out planned work during non-breakdown situations.
  • Developing strong lines of communication between the engineering shift and the manufacturing teams.
  • Ensuring effective handovers between shifts, with detailed shift logs sent out.
  • Ensuring the shift engineers utilize all engineering systems.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of health & safety, food safety, and other manufacturing practices.
  • Upholding company policies and behaviors.
  • Understanding downtime issues and targets and communicating them to the line engineers.
  • Coordinating line improvements with the senior improvements engineer.
  • Coordinating continuous improvement (CI) activities on the shift.
  • Supporting engineering management during periods of absence (attending D/WTR).
  • Carrying out any tasks or duties deemed appropriate by your line manager.

Involvement in:

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the Lead Engineer will also be involved in:

  • Being a Safety Champion and ensuring safety compliance.
  • Acting as a CMMS Super User, proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Issuing permits to employees and contractors.
  • Being part of the engineering escalation process.
  • Working with the senior improvement engineer to conduct regular reviews of the skills matrix and identify skills gaps and training opportunities.
