Library Assistant / Relief Driver

Location: Fermanagh
Salary: £25,583 – £25,989 per annum
Hours: 21.25 hours per week
Working Pattern: Thursday to Saturday, 9:15am – 4:30pm

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Library Assistant / Relief Driver to support the delivery of library services across the Fermanagh area.

Working as part of a front-line team, you will assist in providing high-quality library services to local communities while also delivering relief cover on mobile libraries, homecall services, and stock delivery vans. The role includes responsibility for driving and maintaining vehicles, ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements, and completing associated record keeping.

The successful candidate may also be required to provide cover at other service points to meet operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of library services across a designated geographical area.
  • Provide relief cover for general mobile libraries, homecall services, and stock delivery vans.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to library users and members of the public.
  • Drive and maintain vehicles up to and including 7.5 tonnes.
  • Ensure all vehicle records and documentation are maintained in line with legislative requirements.
  • Use ICT systems to access, select, and manage information.
  • Support library operations and contribute to the achievement of Libraries NI service objectives.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must have:

  • A valid Driving Licence including Category C1.

And either:

  • Five GCSE/GCE O Levels at Grades A*-C, including English and Maths (or an equivalent/higher qualification), together with at least one year’s experience driving a vehicle up to and including 7.5 tonnes.

Or

  • A minimum of two years’ experience driving a vehicle up to and including 7.5 tonnes.

In addition, applicants must have:

  • At least one year’s experience working with the public in a face-to-face customer-focused environment.
  • Experience using current Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems to access, select, and use information.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and support services across multiple locations when required.
