Main Duties/Responsibilities
As a multi trade apprentice, the job holder would be training over the course of a maximum of two years, with the aim of becoming fully trained in the following duties:
- Assist the HR Manager and Director to plan the use, maintenance and security of the premises, facilities and equipment.
- Carry out or organise necessary repairs, servicing and maintenance of the premises, facilities and equipment.
- Outdoor grounds maintenance including grass cutting, power hosing, weed control etc
- Ensure compliance with all legal, organisational and best practice requirements in relation to Fire Safety, Security, Asbestos Management and Legionella prevention including keeping logbooks up to date on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Assist with the procurement and management of external contractors, goods and equipment.
- Monitor the effectiveness, quality and costs of service being provided and take appropriate corrective actions as necessary.
- Set up rooms for meetings and/or training as per requirements.
- Provide practical assistance to ensure the delivery of a range of training interventions, not limited to but including, Skillbuild and Mobile Training Unit, Scaffolding.
- Key Holder duties as required.
- Liaising with tenants on building maintenance matters.
- Ensure all necessary equipment, machinery and consumables are purchased, stored and maintained appropriately.
- Operate various equipment in a safe and competent manner – examples include ride on lawnmower, strimmer, saws, drills, fire alarm systems, IT equipment etc.
- Safely drive CITB NI van to carry goods, equipment or other personnel.
Essential Criteria
Entry criteria into the multi trade apprenticeship requires Grade D or above in Maths, English and ICT. Candidates will be considered who hold two out of the three qualifications and training will be provided for the third qualification.
The apprenticeship will be delivered by People 1st at the CITB NI premises at Nutts Corner Training Centre. More details can be found here Diploma in Building Maintenance. Training will be conducted via day release one day per week commencing September 2025.
Minimum age requirements is 18 years of age to facilitate training to drive a forklift truck and work van.
Candidates should either already have or be willing to work towards the requirements set out below over a period of up to two years.
- Capable of managing a broad range of general maintenance and other tasks using your own initiative or as directed.
- High level of aptitude for mechanical/ electrical/plumbing and/or joinery
- Willingness to undertake a wide range of caretaking/janitorial duties, some of which may be grimy jobs.
- Possess a fork lift truck licence or willingness to undertake training to obtain one
- Driving Licence to facilitate driving CITB NI Van
- Ability to provide a high standard of customer care with excellent oral and written communication
- In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety requirements relating to the role of the Premises Officer
- IT Literate
- Ability to set up a broad range of audio-visual equipment
Desirable Criteria
- Knowledge of fire panels and security systems
- Qualified within a trade area – mechanical/ electrical/ plumbing and/ or joinery
Personal commitments
Attendance is required on a regular basis outside normal office hours – this may include a rota early starts. Times between 7.00 am and 5.00 pm
