About the Role
Are you an experienced IT professional ready to lead the operational delivery of critical server support services? The Business Services Organisation (BSO) is seeking an Operations Service Manager to join our Infrastructure Information Technology Services (ITS) team. You will take lead responsibility for the day-to day delivery of server support, manage small and medium sized projects, and provide expert technical advice across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure operational delivery of ITS services meets agreed processes, SLAs, and quality standards (ITIL, ISO 9001, ISO 20000 & 27001)
- Manage and support high availability ICT services and server infrastructure (Unix, Windows, virtualisation, storage, databases)
- Lead and support projects, including planning, resource deployment, and stakeholder engagement
- Act as deputy to the Operations Manager and primary contact during business continuity or disaster recovery events
- Oversee supplier performance and contribute to change management and service transition processes
- Promote a culture of collective leadership, openness, and continuous improvement within your team
- Ensure compliance with BSO policies, equality, health & safety, and data protection requirements
Essential Criteria
- Experience:
- Relevant specialist knowledge and experience in at least four of the following areas:
- High Availability Unix and Windows systems
- Server virtualisation (e.g., VMware, IBM pSeries, Hyper-V)
- Managing/supporting Unix (AIX, HP-UX, RHEL) and Windows (2012/16/19) systems
- SAN storage, database management (Oracle, SQL Server, Caché), TCP/IP, Active Directory, backup/restore
- Experience with ITIL Service Management processes for complex ICT services
- Relevant specialist knowledge and experience in at least four of the following areas:
- Qualifications:
- University degree or professional qualification with at least 3 years in ICT technical support management in a major complex organisation (200+ staff or £50M+ budget)
- OR at least 5 years in such a role without a degree
- Skills:
- Proven track record in managing and delivering moderately complex ICT projects
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and senior management
- Excellent networking and communication skills
Desirable Criteria
- Valid ITIL qualification
