We are currently recruiting a Scientific Officer for our client based in Belfast, Airport Road. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork and ANI completed.

 

Start date: ASAP

Rate of pay: £17.43

Duration: 29/03/2026 (potential for extension)                               

Hours of work: 37

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

The post holders will support the team in the delivery of scientific evidence and advice to support the current and future Agri-environment scheme.

The post-holder will assist in the provision of scientific evidence and advice on designated sites, priority habitats and species to Countryside Management Unit (CMU) Delivery who administer the current Environmental Farming Scheme (EFS) and also the future scheme Farming with Nature (FwN).

The main responsibilities include:

  • Provide scientific support to CMU Delivery teams.
  • Use all resources relevant and available in providing scientific supportincluding ArcGIS data and additional scientific evidence.
  • Show and maintain a high work ethic to meet NIEA EFS team weekly/monthly targets.
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently, liaising with CMU team and other stakeholders to resolve queries.
  • Provide assistance in the field with habitat monitoring to enhance knowledge on a wider scale in order to support and benefit the delivery of the EFS.
  • Analysis, interpretation, and collation of ecological data from a number of sources, using both MS Excel and ArcPro GIS software.

 

 

Essential Criteria applicants must have:

  • Degree & 4 GCE/GCSE ‘O’ Levels, grades A-C, in separate subjects which must include English, Mathematics and one Science subject (Proof of certs required).
  • 2 years continuous experience gained within the last 8 years in a paid, voluntary or academic capacity associated with the conservation or assessment of our natural terrestrial or freshwater heritage (ecosystems, habitats or species), such as in one or a combination of the following:

– Knowlegde of species and habitats management/restoration- Professional standard report                        writing and preparation

– Conducting ecological surveys (including mapping, recording and monitoring of scientific data)

– Professional standard report writing and preparation

– Using ArcGIS

 

Essential Criteria applicants must have:

 

  • A good ecological and knowledge base preferably with some GIS experience expertise.
