Job Advertisement: Staff Officer – Castle Buildings, Belfast
Location: Castle Buildings, Stormont, Belfast
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm)
Duration: 6 months (with potential for extension)
Rate of Pay: £17.94 per hour
Are you ready to take on an exciting role supporting key public sector initiatives? We are seeking a proactive and highly organized Staff Officer to join our team at Castle Buildings in Stormont, Belfast. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to important projects, including the implementation of the Mental Capacity Act, and make a real impact on public policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist DP/G7 in engagement, support, and guidance with stakeholders to embed provisions.
- Support the consultation process for the commencement of new MCA provisions.
- Lead governance of the Mental Health Support Fund, ensuring delivery aligns with objectives until fund completion.
- Provide policy oversight and coordination on gambling and homelessness issues, as required.
- Offer advice to Ministers, senior officials, statutory committees, and stakeholders through oral and written correspondence.
- Handle Assembly Questions and manage branch mailbox queries.
- Support G7/DP in stakeholder meetings, providing secretariat functions.
- Assist with honour nominations, Freedom of Information requests, and wider Mental Health directorate responsibilities.
- Provide ad-hoc support to the branch as required.
Essential Criteria:
- Programme/Project Management experience.
- Degree in a related field (evidence required).
Desired Criteria:
- Experience working on high-profile public interest issues, especially involving complaints and complainants (preferably within the NICS).
- Change management experience in the public sector (ideally NICS).
- Experience in policy analysis, monitoring, and providing recommendations to senior management (preferably in NICS).
Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Previous experience working on policy in a government setting.
