Job Opportunity: Staff Officer (Energy Strategy Division)
Rate of Pay: £17.09 Per Hour
Assignment Length: Initially 3 Months, potentially longer.
Hours: 37 hours per Week, 9 to 5, Monday to Friday.
Location: Belfast City Centre
Main Duties Include: The Staff Officer will work under the direction of the Departmental Principal to identify options for energy analysis and research on specific topics, spanning heat, energy efficiency, industry & transport, consumer, and climate & economy. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting CGE interface, cost/benefit, finance analysis, data development, and maintaining models.
- Managing the Energy Transmission Model for Future Energy Scenarios and engaging with other regions/organizations.
- Developing and operating in-house energy models.
- Utilizing models to report on projected progress and impact of Energy Strategy targets.
- Drafting briefing papers to report results and inform energy policy decisions.
- Conducting primary research and analysis to deliver energy projects within the Research Strategy, and collaborating with external researchers.
- Working alongside other analysts and researchers to participate, collaborate, inform, and learn from other energy research.
- Drafting research papers and reports for internal use and external publication.
- Monitoring relevant energy research and identifying implications for energy policy.
- Assisting in research, coordination, and collation of information for Strategy documents.
- Liaising with key staff across the Energy group and other departments, coordinating information from various sources.
- Ensuring prompt action on all requests (finance, coordination, correspondence, etc.) and adhering to deadlines.
- Updating Energy Strategy Division website content as directed by the line manager.
- Undertaking other tasks as directed by DP/G7.
Desired Criteria:
- Economic related degree.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Good IT skills across the main Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel.
- Experience with data manipulation/interrogation tools such as SPSS, R, or Python.
- Experience with data visualization packages such as PowerBI, Tableau.
