Responsible for: The delivery of on-site and virtual health and safety awareness training. You will deliver training to construction industry employers at their sites/venues or by using our Mobile Training Unit as a classroom. You will also support the development of face-to-face and virtual training material, ensuring it is up-to-date.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

Delivery of Health and Safety awareness training at locations around Northern Ireland. Training delivery may also include virtual delivery.

  1. Organise and prepare for the provision of training, ensuring the availability of the necessary resources and equipment.
  1. Development and updating of training resources and materials suitable for classroom as well as virtual audiences.
  1. Work in partnership with our in-house team to maximise training delivery opportunities.
  1. Support our customers with their training needs through effective delivery, support and advice when required.
  1. To assist management in developing and implementing a direct training strategy, operational plans and budgets.
  1. Deliver specified topics using existing training packs. This will be mainly Health and Safety awareness training relevant within the construction sector in Northern Ireland. This may be in person or online.
  1. Evaluate and develop own facilitation and training practice, ensuring currency of personal competence and knowledge of relative construction industry developments.
  1. Make formal/informal presentations orally and in written report form, including the preparation of statistical information regarding courses as required.
  1. Ensure the care and security of all equipment and other resources as well as operating such equipment as per manufacturer’s specifications.
  1. Monitor the effectiveness, quality and cost of service being provided and take appropriate remedial action.
  1. Ensure that the risks to health and safety of all those associated with the department are assessed and that the necessary preventative and protective measures are taken.
  1. Ensure all trainees are treated with professionalism and dignity, implement equality policies and making reasonable adjustments to ensure fair participation.
  1. Contributing to wider health and safety matters across the organisation such as undertaking or updating risk assessments.
  1. Any other duties as required.

Essential Criteria

  1. At least 2 years’ experience delivering training to small groups of trainees and/or participants.
  1. Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety laws in Northern Ireland and codes of practice relevant to specialist areas, and the ability to effectively maintain awareness of these.
  1. Excellent communication and people skills with the ability to interact with customers at all levels (from operative to manager), explaining complex issues in a way that is easily understood. Ability to write reports and collate data.
  1. Ability to prioritise and manage own workload with excellent time management skills.
  1. Experience in developing and updating training materials.
  1. Experience completing and reviewing health and safety risk assessments. Experience is not required to have been achieved within the construction industry.
  1. Demonstrable IT skills including the use of Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint & Teams to deliver and produce effective course materials and presentations.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Hold a relevant training/teaching award or instructional qualification or be willing to achieve the same.
  1. Hold a relevant health and safety qualification such as IOSH or NEBOSH or willing to achieve same.
  1. Knowledge of construction industry in Northern Ireland or experience managing health and safety in a similar field.
  1. Experience delivering training using online methods.

Personal Commitments

  1. Available to travel to and deliver training in locations around Northern Ireland.
  1. Attendance outside normal business hours is required on a regular basis. This includes travel and setting up time as required. Flexi time is available.
  2. You are required to have access to a vehicle insured for business use to fully undertake the requirements of this role.
