Youth Justice Practitioner

We are currently recruiting for a. Youth Justice Practitioner. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork and ANI completed.

Location: Southern Area (including Craigavon, Armagh, Banbridge, Newry, Mourne & Downpatrick)

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6 months

Hours of Work: Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm, with evening work offset by time off in lieu. Flexi working including evenings.

Rate of Pay: £15.97 per hour

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver early-stage diversion services to children/young people on the fringes of the criminal justice system.
  • Manage, supervise, and deliver PPS plans, court orders, and bail supervision plans to meet statutory requirements.
  • Assess needs and manage risks while promoting restorative practices, rehabilitation, reintegration, resilience, and desistance.
  • Operate within YJA guidelines as directed by middle management.
  • Provide effective social work and youth work services from early intervention to supervision upon release from custody.
  • Facilitate Youth Engagement Clinics with the PSNI and PPS to exit suitable children and young people from the criminal justice system at the earliest opportunity.
  • Deliver community resolution notice programs to young people referred by PSNI.
  • Conduct various assessments, including the YJA assessment, to develop holistic and tailor-made intervention plans.
  • Work closely with victims, ensuring their views are heard and they are engaged in the process if they wish.
  • Ensure intervention plans are informed by assessments and youth conference outcomes, with regular planning, review, and evaluation of progress.
  • Collaborate with young people, families/carers, communities, and professional bodies to support positive behavior change and reduce offending.
  • Establish multi-agency and community networks to deliver interventions in partnership and ensure the reintegration of young people.
  • Source, risk assess, and manage appropriate Reparative Activity placements to fulfill community service requirements.
  • Participate in and prepare reports for case conferences, reviews, and relevant meetings.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records in accordance with YJA case recording policy.
  • Participate in training and support of volunteers, social work, youth work students, and sessional workers.
  • Promote and deliver a range of restorative approaches outside the youth conference, considering the views of victims.
  • Serve as an Officer of the Court, providing high-quality oral and written reports and bail assessments to the court and PPS.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Juvenile Justice Centre to provide a seamless service to young people in custody and contribute to release planning.
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, training, and staff development programs.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Social Work or Youth and Community Work (Proof of certificates required).
  • Experience working with young people who display challenging behavior.
  • Experience writing formal reports.
  • Valid driving license and access to transport to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Successful completion of a Warner interview.
