The LinkedIn scam and how to avoid it.
A new LinkedIn scam is doing the rounds at the moment whereby fake profiles are created and disguised as recruiters.
The scam itself involves the profiles sending messages containing a link to obtain your personal information. Although it’s generally common sense to avoid these sorts of messages the website link itself leads to a pretty legitimate-looking site.
So then, how can you avoid this scam?
Well, first and foremost – by being aware of it (which now you are – you’re welcome).
Secondly, make sure know each and every one of your connections. If you don’t and you’re not sure about an accounts legitimacy, then don’t connect with them.
Thirdly, remember this: A real and credible employer would never ask you to pay for a job. Even if the message may seem somewhat credible and regards paying for materials or training – take this as a warning sign to block and report.
Another brilliant tip is to search the profile in questions picture on Google images. Con artists usually use generic and fake photos which you can normally find online with a quick and simple search.
Finally, Insist on a phone call. If a recruiter contacts you via message but is then reluctant to follow this up with a phone call, consider this an alarm bell.
Stay safe out there!
If you think you may be the victim of ‘scamming’, make sure to change your passwords as soon as possible and notify the relevant social platform.
