The perfect LinkedIn profile: A guide

The perfect LinkedIn profile: A guide.

Recruiters these days are using LinkedIn on a daily basis, therefore, it’s important to make sure your profile stands out and is as good as it can be.

Luckily for you, CareerBlast Co-Founder, William Arruda has compiled a list of factors that you can check against your existing profile to see if it’s really as good as it could be. Originally writing in Forbes, we’ve taken Arruda’s advice and condensed his advice down to 7 factors that you can use to perfect your profile.

1. Profile Picture.

First and foremost – no selfies. Got it? Okay, good. You want your profile picture to be a professional shot, Arruda recommends your face take up between 70-80% of the available space.

2. Heading.

Your headline should be clear and concise. Include your job title, place of work, and any keywords you wish to include. Avoid corporate jargon and stating that you are seeking work in your heading.

3. Links & Contact Info.

Make sure to include any links to websites you may have, along with your contact information, and social platforms. This way anyone who lands on your profile knows where to go.

4. Skills and Bio.

Check your endorsements and make sure these are the skills you want to be known for. As well as this, make sure the first two sentences of your bio are captivating – take a look at the profiles of your industries key individuals and take inspiration from them if need be.

5. Personality.

It doesn’t all have to be work work work work work (Rhianna eat your heart out)

Arruda advises your profile should include about 20-30% personal information too e.g. your interests, values and life experiences.

6. Format.

Treat your profile as an online CV – check spelling mistakes, poor grammar and the overall layout. You want to make sure that you’ve formatted your profile to reflect your quality, your profile won’t be taken seriously if it’s not formatted correctly.
