10 tips for creating a harmonious working environment

10 tips for creating a harmonious working environment.

One of the most effective ways of working towards creating a harmonious working environment is to adopt the behaviour and attitudes you’d want to see in your ideal boss and perfect colleagues.

This theory is based on the simple premise that, if we show respect, kindness and encouragement to others, we will, in turn, receive it back.

Happiness = Harmony

Because at the end of the day, who doesn’t want to work in a harmonious environment?

“So then?”, I hear you ask, “what’re some ways to execute this?”

Well, worry no more because here’re 12.

Positive Reinforcement

Positive reinforcement is a simple and effective way to lay the foundations of a harmonious working environment as it does what it says on the tin – reinforces positivity.

You should consider using the following sentences when liaising with others around your business.

  • I appreciate the way you…
  • I’m impressed with…
  • I really enjoy working with you because…
  • Your team couldn’t be successful without your…
  • I admire the way you take the time to…
  • You’re really good at…

 Gratitude

Say thank you. Simple as that.

Especially if that person wasn’t expecting to be thanked for whatever it is they did.

Make sure you’re specific about what it was and why it was so helpful or important; why not CC their boss into the email too.

Smile

Why not try and greet everyone you encounter in the workplace (extending past the usual colleagues you may already do this with) and don’t forget your smile!

Motivate

Think of ways you can motivate those around you. Why not pin an inspirational poster to the wall for all to see – after all it’s the little things that make the big difference.

Celebrate Wins

Start a meeting off by discussing what you think some of the successes since the last one have been. This shares nothing but positivity and you should encourage others to do the same!

Celebrate in General

Project milestone? New house? Birthday? Whatever it may be it’s a reason to celebrate. Get the card out and pass it around for all to sign.

Listen to Ideas

When someone disagrees with you about something, try and consider their viewpoint and try your best to reach a compromise, try and avoid getting defensive.

Get Moving

If you have a meeting with only a couple of people, why not make it a walking meeting and get that blood pumping?

Encourage Fun

Add some fun to the office by hosting weekly or monthly themed days. This will definitely increase team morale as well as making your workplace extra fun.

Random Acts of Kindness

Who doesn’t love a RAOK? And this doesn’t always have to mean going out of your way to do something for someone else, simply asking a co-worker how their evening or weekend was is a wonderful start!
