Job Title: Design Engineer

Location: Bolton

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000

We are a leading engineering firm seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bolton. This is an exciting opportunity to become a key player in our high-performing design department. With our continuous growth and expansion into new markets, we require an individual who is passionate about product design and has the skills to drive our design office to new heights.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead product design, specification, and design maintenance activities.
• Manage multiple small to medium projects effectively.
• Provide engineering support for specific application inquiries.
• Ensure the integrity of the PDM database, BOM records, and design standards.
• Develop designs from specifications to factory drawings, BoM, quality processes, and more as necessary.
• Take responsibility for work packages within a project, organizing task priorities and resources to meet targets.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers and the factory to gain a deep understanding of processes, promoting a design-for-manufacture philosophy.

Person Specification:

Desirable:

• SolidWorks 3D and 2D experience, including the use of design tables and Workgroup PDM.
• Knowledge of hydraulic design.
• Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis and mechanical systems.
• Understanding of measurement techniques for first article inspection reports.
• Chartered engineer status.
• Apprentice-trained mechanical engineer.

Essential:

• Portfolio evidence of high-quality design experience.
• Precision design experience, particularly with carbon steel tubes, forgings, castings.
• Knowledge of precision manufacturing processes such as turning, machining, and welding.
• Ability to work with tolerance standards such as BS 8888, BS EN 10243-1, etc.
• Experience with design release and management in an ERP environment based on ISO9001 standards.
• Inquisitive mind with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to precision.
• Solid modeling experience with drawing creation.
• Hands-on approach with a willingness to take on various tasks in a small department.
• Enthusiastic and energetic nature.
• Experience in design for manufacture and a hunger for continuous learning.
• Strong MS Office skills, particularly with spreadsheets at an advanced level.
• Project planning and management experience.

Other Skills & Experience:

• Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent, preferably to MEng level.
• A professional experience portfolio suitable for Chartered Engineer submission in due course.
• Minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience in a design role.
• Within an easy commute (20 miles max from Bolton).
• Computer literate, especially with analytical spreadsheets.
