Job Title: Maintenance Craftsperson (Fitter)

Band: 4  £12.25 an hour

Initial Location: Antrim Area Hospital

Reports To: Planner Supervisor

Job Summary:

As a Maintenance Craftsperson (Fitter) in our Estate Services Department, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of our healthcare facilities. Your responsibilities will include maintenance routines, repairs, and tasks related to the mechanical and plumbing disciplines. You’ll be part of a dedicated team, working on a 5-day week basis, with occasional participation in a 7-day rota shift to meet service needs, which may include public, bank, and statutory holidays. Flexibility, attention to detail, and compliance with safety regulations are crucial in this role.

Key Result Areas / Main Responsibilities:

  • Undertake unsupervised maintenance work based on your training and experience, understanding the inter-relationship between various maintenance crafts.
  • Prioritize and work independently when necessary, efficiently managing your workload.
  • Receive and report on jobs through the Trust Mobile work management tool.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by performing a wide range of tasks in various craft areas.
  • Use appropriate tools and equipment to perform work on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in HPSS buildings.
  • Manufacture, assemble, erect, and install new components as required.
  • Engage in necessary training to learn about new equipment and techniques.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations, sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Assist with annual Insurance Inspections on boilers and associated steam plant, including preparation, dismantling, cleaning, repair, reassembly, and testing.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety instructions in accordance with the Health and Safety (1978) NI Order.
  • Provide maintenance services for all plant and equipment within the Trust as directed.
  • Monitor fuel usage as required and maintain plant efficiency through testing and reporting.
  • Perform a given program of work, including planned preventative maintenance, new projects, repairs, and emergency breakdowns.
  • Carry out valve operations, greasing/lubrication, packing, or valve spindle maintenance.
  • Participate in an on-call system as per the locally negotiated agreement.
  • Interpret and work from instructions, drawings, and specifications without supervision.
  • Participate in an annual review with your line manager for personal development and training needs identification.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by a Senior Officer.

Your Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 1-year direct experience in maintenance work.
  • Strong mechanical and plumbing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Attention to detail and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Valid Driving Licence and access to own vehicle.
