About the Role
As a Mental Health General Secretary, you will provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support within Mental Health Services, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient delivery of care.
You will work closely with Mental Health professionals, service users, carers and partner agencies while maintaining high standards of confidentiality, professionalism and customer service.
This varied role will involve coordinating administrative processes, managing records, supporting meetings, handling correspondence and using a range of IT systems to support service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Providing efficient secretarial and administrative support to Mental Health teams.
- Word processing reports, letters and other documentation.
- Audio typing (where required).
- Organising meetings and taking minutes.
- Managing appointments, consultant caseloads and diary systems.
- Maintaining accurate manual and electronic records.
- Handling incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Responding to telephone and email enquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Producing reports and maintaining spreadsheets.
- Filing, archiving and records management in line with Trust policies.
- Providing reception and administrative cover when required.
- Supporting service users, carers, colleagues and external agencies.
- Maintaining confidentiality and compliance with GDPR and Data Protection requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- 4 GCSEs (Grades A-C), including English Language (or equivalent qualification) plus 1 year’s secretarial, administrative or clerical experience.
OR
- NVQ Level 2 in Administration (or equivalent) plus 1 year’s secretarial, administrative or clerical experience.
OR
- 2 years’ secretarial, administrative or clerical experience.
In addition, applicants must have:
- RSA/OCR Stage II Text Processing Parts I & II (or equivalent qualification)
OR

At least 12 months’ word processing experience, including typing and formatting reports and letters.

Experience using Microsoft Office applications, including:
- Word
- Excel
- Outlook

A current full UK driving licence and access to transport that enables the duties of the post to be carried out (reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with disability requirements).
