Mobile Library Assistant / Driver (Relief)

Salary: £24,790 – £25,183
Location: Fermanagh

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and customer-focused Mobile Library Assistant / Driver (Relief) to support the delivery of library services across the Fermanagh area.

This varied and rewarding role involves providing relief cover on mobile library services, homecall services, and stock delivery vans. The successful candidate will work as part of a frontline team delivering high-quality library services to communities throughout the district, while ensuring library vehicles are driven, maintained, and operated in accordance with all legislative requirements.

The post holder may also be required to provide relief cover at other service points as required to meet business needs.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Drive library vehicles safely and in accordance with agreed schedules and standards.
  • Assist customers in accessing and making the best use of library services and resources.
  • Select and deliver library materials to homecall customers.
  • Respond to customer enquiries using printed and electronic resources.
  • Help customers access books, e-resources, and library facilities.
  • Process customer requests and maintain customer records.
  • Operate the Library Management System and other ICT systems.
  • Organise the delivery of books and stock to libraries, homes, and individuals.
  • Assist with circulation activities including issuing, returning, and renewing library materials.
  • Participate in community outreach and support activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to statistical reporting.
  • Handle initial customer comments and complaints in line with procedures.
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and all required records are completed.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must demonstrate:

1. Driving Licence

A valid driving licence that includes Category C1 entitlement.

2. Qualifications and Driving Experience

Either:

  • Five GCSEs/GCE O Levels at Grades A*-C, including English and Mathematics (or equivalent/higher qualification), and
  • At least one year’s experience driving a vehicle up to and including 7.5 tonnes.

OR

  • A minimum of two years’ experience driving a vehicle up to and including 7.5 tonnes.

3. Customer Service Experience

  • At least one year’s experience of working with the public in a face-to-face customer-focused environment.

4. ICT Skills

  • Experience using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to access, select, process, and use information.

Knowledge and Skills

Applicants must have knowledge of:

  • Legislative requirements associated with driving and maintaining vehicles.
  • Delivering excellent customer service.
  • Using ICT systems relevant to service delivery.
  • Working effectively as part of a team.
  • Managing records accurately and efficiently.

Working Pattern

The post holder will be based at a public service point and will be required to work a mixture of mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Working patterns may change to meet service needs, and the successful candidate may occasionally work alone at a service point.
