We are currently recruiting for an Senior Communications Manager based in Belfast. The successful candidates will be required to start once the vetting paperwork, ANI clearance has been completed.
To provide strategic communications advice to Ministers and senior officials specifically in relation to the PfG-related initiative on reducing waiting lists and building elective care capacity, whilst demonstrating sound judgement, political awareness and sensitivity;
To develop a ‘live’ communications strategy and associated plan in relation to waiting lists and elective care in order to demonstrate progress and promote relevant developments;
To provide strategic direction on all communications (traditional, social and digital), ensuring the content, messaging, tone and consistency are in line with departmental policy;
To handle complex and sensitive communications issues, providing clear advice to Ministers and senior officials;
To plan and deliver creative, dynamic and engaging digital solutions;
To support the Principal Information Officer on all aspects of communications during a crisis, including identifying emerging issues and providing strong proactive advice;
To contribute in times of particular demand to the development and implementation of effective external media handling strategies/plans within a fast changing news environment;
To manage, maintain and build good working relationships with key stakeholders, customers and partners;
To arrange and manage press conferences, radio and TV interviews, and media coverage of important events, announcements and visits;
To support ministers and senior officials at site visits within and outside Northern Ireland, including international visits, where appropriate
To prepare news releases and other internal and external written communications;
To respond to media enquiries including briefing journalists and managing relationships with the media; and
To evaluate the effectiveness of communications (including social media) against objectives and business outcomes.
The above list is not exhaustive however it gives a good indication of the main duties of the post. The emphasis on particular duties could change over time according to business needs.
Excellent IT skills, including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent communication skills.
