Position: Youth Conference Coordinator
Location: Banbridge (Southern Area: Craigavon, Armagh, Banbridge, Newry, Mourne & Downpatrick)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Minimum 6 months
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm. Flexi working including evenings. Time off in lieu for evening work. Travel and subsistence paid.
Rate of Pay: £15.97 per hour
Role Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Youth Conference Coordinator to join our team. This role is essential in supporting and guiding young people (aged 10-17) who are in or on the fringes of the Criminal Justice System. You will deliver interventions that help reduce reoffending, improve life chances, and uphold restorative justice principles.
The role involves working closely with young people, their families, and victims, as well as engaging with multi-agency partnerships to deliver tailored and meaningful interventions. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people and communities across the Southern Area.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate within YJA policies and directives from Middle and Senior Management.
- Support and challenge young people to desist from offending and improve their life chances.
- Facilitate Youth Engagement Clinics in partnership with PSNI and the Public Prosecution Service to provide diversionary options.
- Undertake and deliver assessments to inform personalized intervention plans.
- Organize and lead Youth Conferences, ensuring restorative approaches and victims’ voices are central.
- Work collaboratively with young people, families, professional bodies, and community networks to foster positive change.
- Source, risk-assess, and manage Reparative Activity placements.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare high-quality written and oral reports for courts and other stakeholders.
- Deliver training and support for volunteers, students, and sessional workers.
- Serve as an Officer of the Court, ensuring timely and effective responses to sentencing requirements.
- Promote and implement restorative approaches outside Youth Conferences.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate the following:
- Degree in Social Work or Degree in Youth and Community Work (proof of certifications required).
- Experience working with young people displaying challenging behaviors.
- Experience writing formal reports.
- Full driving license and access to transport (essential due to extensive travel, including remote areas).
- Registered with NISCC (Northern Ireland Social Care Council).
- Ability to meet the requirements of the post, including travel.
