Man ditches cover letter, records music video instead – but does he land the job?.

It’s common knowledge that when applying for a job, and particularly when you’re writing a cover letter, your goal is to stand out from the crowd.

No one understands this better than Texan copywriter Chase Zreet, who recently put this notion to the test when he ditched the standard accompanying cover letter and instead sent in an accompanying rap video.  Yes – you read that correctly.

Zreet wanted to showcase his creativity, wordplay and overall love for the Sprite brand while creating the video for the job based with the soft drink company’s outsourced creative agency Wieden + Kennedy.

What’s the best part of all this?

He got the job! (Congrats, Chase)

Jimm Lasser, creative director at Wieden & Kennedy told AdFreak:

“There’s too much emphasis put on portfolios and not enough on the creative enthusiasm of a candidate.  We like it when candidates want to be at W&K for a variety of reasons, even beyond our work. All the better when they use their unique talents to demonstrate this. Chase made a great ad about himself. He persuaded us to invest in him. He won us over.”

Zreet stated that the rap idea came to him and “just wouldn’t shut up” and he thought the video “would have a better chance at landing”.

Well, how right he was. Zreet starts his new job in April and we’re sure he’s going to ace it.

In the meantime, if any of you guys are looking for a way to stand out in your next job application – take note!
