#NationalApprenticeshipsWeek: Georgia’s Experience

#NationalApprenticeshipsWeek: Georgia’s Experience.

In 2013 Georgia started with us as an Apprentice Administrator, 5 years and 3 promotions later, now she’s a Client Service Manager.

Being it #NationalApprenticeshipsWeek we decided to ask Georgia how she thinks her apprenticeship helped to get her to where she is today.

Introduce yourself and tell me what it is that you do?

My name is Georgia Bohills, I am 23 years old and work in the North East Hub alongside the Sales and Marketing team and the Contact Centre team as a Client Service Manager. I have been with the business since I was 18 and have worked here for over 5 years. I originally started as an Apprentice Administration, after completing my apprenticeship I moved on to be the Branch Administrator then onto Resourcer before becoming a CSM for the Contact Centre team.

How did you find your apprenticeship?

I had just completed a 2-year college course but wasn’t 100% sure what I wanted to do next, not many employers were recruiting and if they were recruiting they were looking for experience – which I didn’t have! I was given the opportunity to complete a Business Administration apprenticeship with Cordant and 5 years and 3 promotions later I am still working here – I have benefitted so much from completing my course, it gave me confidence, motivation and skills in an industry that I never expected to be part of and I wouldn’t look back!

What were the benefits of doing an apprenticeship?

The benefits of completing an apprenticeship are:
  • Being given an opportunity to work within a business without having any or very little experience.
  • Getting hands-on experiences – rather than being stuck in a classroom you get to tackle real-life projects, problems and tasks.
  • Opens you up to industries and jobs that you never imagined you’d get into, enjoy or knew existed!
  • Being paid to learn and to learn without any financial burden.
  • Getting the opportunity to work alongside and getting training from experienced colleagues.
  • Having a personal tutor who helped complete your modules on a 1-2-1 basis – it meant you didn’t have to go it alone or rely on a colleague having the time to help.
  • There is a wide range of courses to choose from.
  • Gaining a qualification at the end!
  • Having the potential of being offered a permanent role within the business you have completed your apprenticeship with.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to someone, and if so why?

I would 100% recommend an apprenticeship to anyone! Getting into work isn’t the easiest with most employers looking for experience or don’t have the resources to provide good training. An apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to earn while you learn, it gives you hands-on experience, a credible qualification and a genuine opportunity for a career. For anyone stuck in a rut, not knowing what path to take it’s a perfect opportunity to introduce you to different people, roles and industries.
