Recruiters don’t get ‘The January Blues’

Recruiters don’t get ‘The January Blues’.

January blues? What’s that?

Research by Investors in People (IIP) has found that 47% of people are planning plan to change their job in 2018. with around 18% already actively looking. Now, this isn’t unheard of. According to data from Monster, last year the biggest day for job searches last was January 4th.

However, this figure is down by 12% in relation to last year, due to a dip in confidence in the job market with only one-quarter of workers stating they thought employment prospects had improved over the past year.

As well as this the poll also found that 23% thought their job security was called into question due to Brexit.

So why are workers seemingly unhappy?

Well, according to the data, 49% say the main reason they’re looking to change jobs is due to bad management, a 7% increase from last year.

Speaking to the BBC, president of Randstad Professionals, Jodi Chavez said: “December tends to be the time when people will re-evaluate how satisfied or dissatisfied they are with their employer. We see more candidates looking for a job change in the beginning of the year.”

January also marks the start of when firms are looking to fill any gaps in their organisation. Data collected from Indeed shows that in Canada, France, Germany and the US, the amount of job postings significantly rises from December to January.

December accounts for 7.2% of yearly postings in the UK, while January is responsible for 9.4%.

So then, are you thinking about a new job this January? If so, you’ve come to the right place!
