Recruitment Myths: What You Need to Know

Recruitment Myths: What You Need to Know.

When job hunting, and going through the subsequent hiring process, you may come across a few odd recruitment myths. In this blog, we’ll break down the most common recruitment myths, so you can be confident when entering your next hiring process.

The myths of essential requirements

The essential requirement myth is commonplace, and contradictory to popular belief, you don’t need to meet all the requirements to get to the interview stage. As long as the role doesn’t have any non-negotiable qualifications or licences, you can sell your capabilities to the employer, any listed essential requirements shouldn’t get in your way. You may have the passion or work experience that the employer hasn’t considered, which may boost your application over someone who simply meets the essential requirements.

CV Recruitment Myths

Does your CV have to be spotless? Or is that just another of the many recruitment myths? A recent report shows the majority of CVs contain at least one error. The report found the most common CV mistakes to be spelling errors and individuals forgetting to add a personal summary.

Although you should take as much care as possible for your job application if you spot a small error after submitting the application, don’t fret, you’re still in with a strong chance.

The formula for the perfect application

Another myth you should be aware of is the belief that there is a perfect formula for your application. The truth is, you need to be able to adapt, there is no one size fits all formula. Different employers and hiring managers look for different qualities throughout the hiring process. One hiring manager may want to see your personality and encourage an informal tone to see how you’ll fit in with the team, whereas another hiring manager may follow a more formal interview style. Be agile and adaptable and you’ll be sure to make a positive first impression.
