Reconnecting with the people who valued you in the workplace will be fantastic for references and also strengthen self-esteem.

Utilise Those New Skills.

Being at home with kids certainly helps develop people skills, as well as problem-solving, time management and your ability to multi-task. Remember, these skills are credible so don’t sell yourself short, and don’t forget – you still have all the skills from your previous working life and education. You can even describe how you’ve kept these skills up-to-date.

Don’t Worry About Being Flexible.

Whether It’s part-time or full-time work you’re looking for don’t hesitate to apply for both types of positions. These roles are often open to negotiation when it comes to flexible hours, and as long as you can prove that you’re right for the job, you’ll be in a much better position to negotiate work flexibility.

Devise a Working Plan That Fits with Your Kids.

Flexible does not mean part-time. It can mean a handful of things. For example: working from home, delayed or early starts and finishes or compressing your hours into a 4-day week. It’s all about finding the right balance and what works for you.

Be clear and honest with any future employer and remember you’re not alone. Being a parent is a fact of life for more than 80% of both males and female employees.
